Aftermarket exhausts sound better and can also improve performance, so it’s like hitting two birds with one stone. Sometimes you don’t need a full exhaust system, though, you only need a good pair of headers.
This point is demonstrated in the video below, which shows a Ram 1500 with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 on Houston-based tuning company Late Model Racecraft’s dyno. The only performance modification the truck has received is LMR’s headers, which give the truck a more aggressive exhaust note but also improve performance.
According to LMR’s data, the Ram 1500 made 334 horsepower at the rear wheels after being fitted with their headers. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is only rated at 345 horsepower at the flywheel, so LMR’s headers have given it a considerable boost in output, bringing the engine closer to the 400 horsepower mark.
