Scuderia Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen had positive things to say about his new Ferrari-powered Formula 1 car following a four-day pre-season test at Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.
The 18-year old Dutchman, who will be competing in his second season with STR, completed 121 laps on his first day of testing and 110 laps on the second for a total of 231. His fastest lap, a 1:25.393, came on his second day of testing on the soft compound Pirelli tire.
“We are understanding the car more and more and I think it all worked out well,” Verstappen said. “The car is behaving well, so we can be happy. This first test has definitely given me confidence in the car. It was important to run as much as possible and we’ve certainly achieved this goal! I look forward to next week’s test where we will continue to work as hard as this week.”
Verstappen also commented on Toro Rosso’s lack of a livery at the pre-season test, saying the new STR11 will soon have an all-new paintjob, and also disclosed the team’s plans to test some new aero parts in the wind tunnel.
“We definitely will have some painting on it. You will see, it will be interesting,” he said. “(New parts) are all tested in the windtunnel. Our windtunnel works very well so it should also work on track but we still have to wait and see. I am of course looking forward to it but I think we can already be very happy with the four days we had so far.”
