Tourists on the island of Capri are abundant, so the local cabbies drive partially open-top Fiat Mareas with additional cargo space, which are able to expose travelers to the beautiful Italian sunshine with plenty of room left for their luggage. The modified Mareas are getting a bit old, however, so Italian design company Castagna Milano was commissioned to design a replacement.
Enter the Castagna Tiberio, the Fiat 500L-based cab for Capri. It looks a lot like your standard 500L from the front, but around back things are a lot different. An open rear deck is present and incorporates h a special space dedicated to holding tourists’ luggage, while the open rear cab section is covered with a stylish striped canopy. When the ran clouds move in, a fabric top can be erected using zippers and Velcro.
Inside the Tiberio features brown alcantara upholstery seating with striped white and blue inserts and ‘Tiberio’ stitched into the backrests, however the interior may be optioned as the cab driver wishes. Other unique features include a brush-steel painted roof, which is designed to reflect heat in order to keep the cabin cool, and a built-in hose to rinse down the exterior of the vehicle.
So if you ever plan a trip to Capri (and judging by the pictures, you probably should) keep an eye out for these sharp new Fiat 500L-based cabbies ferrying tourists around the small island.
