Late last year, shortly after Dodge announced production of the 2016 Viper would end in 2017, we asked readers if they thought the current-generation Viper would be a future collector’s item. We said the Viper was an ideal collector’s car, mostly due to its low production numbers and raw, old-school nature, and we’re not the only ones who think so.
Classic car insurers Hagerty recently added the 2016 Viper to its annual Hot List of highly collectible vehicles. The Viper’s unadulterated, visceral driving experience, undeniable levels of performance and limited production numbers all contributed to it landing on the Hot List.
“The Viper checks all the boxes for a future collectible,” McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty, said. “Limited-volume, race-bred pedigree, iconic styling and raw power make it a natural choice for the 2016 Hot List.”
Dodge’s exclusive 1-of-1 Viper program may add further collectability to Vipers going forward. The program allows the 8.4-liter V10 supercar to be ordered in any color and with a variety of unique interior and exterior options, allowing for customers to have a Viper completely unlike any other.
“The Dodge Viper is an iconic, hand-built American supercar with a 645-horsepower hand-built aluminum V-10 engine, a timeless and hand-crafted body design with a strong racing pedigree and very limited production over its nearly 25-year lifespan,” said SRT boss Tim Kuniskis. “The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR’s unprecedented 13 track records add to the legend, and the exclusive 1-of-1 program with 25 million unique build configurations helps make it an exclusive collectible among today’s supercars.”
