The stage is set for the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans and boy, does it look good. Ferrari today announced that eight cars wearing the Prancing Horse badge will be entered into this year’s edition of the annual endurance race, including three new-for-2016 Ferrari 488s that will compete in the highly competitive GTE-Pro class.
AF Corse will compete in the No. 31 and no. 71 Ferrari 488s at Le Mans, while Texas-based team Risi Competizione will be in the No. 62 488. Additionally, AF Corse will enter two 458s in the GTE-Am category, while Formula Racing, Scuderia Corsa and Clearwater Racing will enter the final three 458s.
In addition to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, two 488 GTEs and one 458 will race the entire FIA World Endurance Championship season. The No. 488s will be fielded by AF Corse and driven by Gianmaria “Gimmi” Bruni, James Calado, Sam Bird and Davide Rigon, while the 458 will be driven by François Perrodo, Rui Aguas and Emmanuel Collard.
We’ll find out if one of the eight Ferraris entered into the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans can pull out a class win when the race goes live in mid June.
