Ram Truck today expanded its off-road product portfolio, rolling out a new 4×4 Off-Road Package for the three-quarter ton Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup.
The 4×4 Off-Road Package is described by Ram as a “value-priced option,” for the Ram 2500 that it created in response to customer demand. The majority of changes have happened underneath the sheet metal, with Ram adding Bilstein monotube shock absorbers, a standard with a rear anti-spin differential and an underbody skid plate to help the pickup deal with the demands of off-road driving. The Hill-decent Control system featured on the Power Wagon is also standard.
Styling wise, Ram has added larger fender flares in a Black or body-color finish, which it says were applied to protect the truck against rocks, mud and other debris that the tires might fling up. That’s important, as the aggressive Firestone LT tires are specifically designed to clean themselves by allowing debris to break free when under rotation, clearing the treads so they may grip again.
The Ram 2500 4×4 Off-road Package will be available in conjunction with both Crew Cab and Mega Cab body configurations, gas and diesel engines and short- and long-wheelbases. All Ram trim-levels are also available with the package, giving Ram owners the option to have an off-road intensive truck like the Ram Power Wagon with the luxurious interior of the Ram Laramie, for example.
Ram says the 4×4 Off-road Package will be available starting in the third quarter of 2016.
