Mick Schumacher, 16-year old son of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher, may have just joined the fast-track to one day drive for Scuderia Ferrari. According to German newspaper Kolner Express, Schumacher is in talks to drive for the Ferrari-linked Prema Powerteam in the Italian Formula 4 series as well as in the German ADAC Formula 4 series.
Last year Schumacher made his open-wheel racing debut in the German F4 series and was met with expected fan fare. Driving for the Dutch Van Amersfoort team, Schumacher earned a win in his opening race and garnered more attention later in the season with a second podium. The result of this strong rookie-season performance was an offer to return to Van Amersfoort in the German F4 series in addition to another offer form championship winning team HTP and Prema.
It’s looking as though Schumacher will take the Prema route, with team principal Angelo Rosin confirming negotiations with Schumacher and his agent will commence in “early January.” Prema is also closely linked to Mercedes-Benz, another team his father raced for and had ties with, so it’s possible he will take the Mercedes route if he does indeed end up joining the Prema squad.
