Last year it was reported Christian Bale would play Enzo Ferrari in a Michael Mann-directed film based on the Brock Yates book, Enzo Ferrari: The Man, The Cars, The Races. But a new report from Motorsport.com indicates Bale will no longer play the legendary automaker and race team owner, with the actor citing health concerns as his reasoning.
Bale, whose best-known for playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in the Christopher Nolan directed Batman films, has decided to pull out of the Ferrari film after being asked to gain a considerable amount of weight in a short amount of time. Filming for the new movie was expected to begin this Spring, forcing Mann to scramble to fill the role of Ferrari.
Mann, whose filmography includes titles such as Miami Vice, Heat and The Insider, has reportedly been working on the Ferrari biopic for more than 15 years. His film is one of two Ferrari films currently in production, with a second biopic starring Robert de Niro set to premiere later this year.
