Shortly after the 2017 Fiat 14 Spider made its debut at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show, a report emerged stating a hot 124 Abarth would be added to Fiat’s lineup in 2017. That bit of intel turned out to be spot on, with photos of a prototype version of the high performance 124 Spider variant appearing on Autoblog today.
Based on these spy shots, there appears to be few surprises in store for the 124 Abarth. As expected, it will receive a more aggressive front fascia, sportier wheels and quad-exit exhaust tips. Under the hood will sit Fiat’s 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylidner engine producing 170 horsepower, however a even more powerful ‘Esse Esse’ version is also expected to be offered and will churn out over 200 horsepower.
This well camouflaged prototype isn’t revealing too much, so we’ll have to either way for more spy shots of a different prototype or emerge, or wait patiently until the 124 Abarth debuts sometime in mid- to late-2016.
