Once upon a time, Grand Spaulding Dodge at the corner of Grand and Spaulding in Chicago were the kings of dealer-installed performance parts for Mopar muscle. With Norm Kraus at the helm, also known as ‘Mr. Norm’, the dealer offered its customers the chance to customize their Dart, Charger, Challenger or whatever else they bought before happily driving it off the lot.
Eventually Mr. Norm teamed up with iconic performance parts company Hurst, which resulted in the creation of the legendary 440 M-Code Dodge Dart. Mr. Norm was in charge of engineering the prototype M-Code Dart, and once he had proved the 440 V8 engine would fit under the hood of the car, Hurst-Campbell set to work on producing all 500 units for Norm and Grand Spaulding Dodge.
This year, the partnership between Mr. Norm and Hurst was revived. At the 2015 Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Assocation show, or SEMA, Grand Spaulding Dodge and Hurst unveiled the Hurst Heritage GSS Ram 1500. The special kit, which is available on any trim-level Ram 1500 in regular or crew cab, calls upon Hursts past in a big way with a white paint finish and gold stripes, wheels and other accents.
The exterior features a Ram R/T style hood with custom hood pins, Bushwacker fender flares, a special roof spoiler, a fuel door applique, a ‘Hurst Equipped’ badge and a special Hurst logo license plate. All Hurst Heritage GSS Rams will also come with 20-inch ‘Stunner’ wheels, however 22-inch PVD wheels are also available as options. Performance upgrades consist of a Flowmaster cat-back exhaust system, a K&N intake and Ground Force lowering springs and shocks.
Interior upgrades include a full black-and-white Katzkin custom leather upholstery with Hurst embroidered logos, plush carpet mats, a serial number plaque, a unique shift knob and stainless-steel pedal covers.
While the standard Hurst Heritage GSS Package starts at $15,995, the price will grow as the customer chooses additional options and parts. The tonneau cover and bedliner are options and basing the Hurst Heritage GSS off of a Crew Cab Ram 1500 will also increase the price as the rear seats will also have to be fitted with the special Katzkin interior trim.
