Fiat Chrysler’s 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 has been named one of the Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2016, marking the third year in a row the well-received engine has earned the distinction. This is also the second year in a row the EcoDiesel V6 has been the lone reprsentative of diesel power on the 10 Best Engines list.
The EcoDiesel V6, which implemented new strategies to manage combustion and maximize efficiency, is rated at 21 MPG city, 29MPG highway and 24 MPG combined in the 2016 Ram 1500 pickup. Wards praised the engine not only for its fuel-sipping nature but for its power and smooth torque delivery.
“The 3.0-liter from FCA was one of three diesels in pickup trucks we tested this year for Wards 10 Best Engines, and we expected a tough fight among them all,” said executive director at Wards, Tom Murphy. “But the Ram 1500 proved superior and continues to impress us with ideal measures of power, torque, refinement and luxury-car smoothness.”
Fiat Chrysler has been consistently improving the EcoDiesel V6 over the years and ensures customers they will experience even more levels of efficiency, torque and refinement with the engine now than when it was first introduced in 2013.
“We are never content to rest on our laurels, so our engineering team worked overtime to make a great engine even greater,” said head of engine and powertrain engineering at Fiat Chrysler in North America, Bob Lee. “For model-year 2016, customers who choose our 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 will experience more of the attributes they were seeking when FCA US became the first automaker to equip a light-duty pickup with clean diesel technology.”
Other engines that made Wards 10 Best Engines for 2016 include the Ford VooDoo V8, BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, Subaru’s 2.0-liter four-cylidner Boxer and Volvo’s supercharged 2.0-liter. For the full list of winners, click here.
