We might bit a bit biased, admittedly, but in our opinion there are few things that sound as good as a Ferrari V12 at full chat. The ear-piercing shriek mixed the bang and pop of the exhaust on the overrun is enough to send chills down any car enthusiast’s spine, so what car could possibly match up to such pleasant racket?
The 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 in the McLaren P1 GTR might just be enough to dethrone a Ferrari V12 as the sound king of the car world. YouTube user yd222 got the opportunity to film both the P1 GTR and the Ferrari FXX K on track and put the two clips in the same video so we could compare the two track-only supercar’s exhaust notes back-to-back.
To our ear, the FXX K’s 6.3-liter V12 is endlessly more pleasing than the P1 GTR’s, but that’s hardly a knock at the McLaren. We were pleasantly surprised the small turbocharged V8 let out such a deep, menacing exhaust note as it tore down the front straight and downshifted as it approached the first corner.
