Free practice sessions ahead of the 2015 Brazilian Grand Prix are complete, with Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg topping the leaderboard with a lap time of 1:12.385. The big news of the day was Kimi Raikkonen’s spin, however, which occurred after the Fin locked up his tires while approaching Turn 4 during FP1.
The minor shunt was blamed on an issue with the set up on the car and appears to have been caused by both rear brakes locking up. Raikkonen was able to keep the car moving and return to the track without incident, however the spin put a minor damper on the team’s goals in the free practice session.
“In general, the two sessions were quite confusing: a lot of things happened and I don’t think we have got a clear picture,” Raikkonen told F1.com. “In the morning we spent the first half an hour to do some aero testing, then we had one run followed by a small issue with the set up and I spun off.”
“Now we have to look at what we did today and then try to fix certain issues for tomorrow. For sure we have some work to do.”
Raikkonen posted the fourth fastest time of the day with a lap of 1:13.500, .155 seconds off Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel.
