As we discovered when we drove it, the Fiat 500X is a stylish urban cruiser with a slight hint of the ‘go anywhere’ attitude the more rugged Jeep Renegade has. Fiat has decided to play off this personality for the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas with the 500X Mobe, which is designed to “haul toys to the beach in search of surf and sand,” the automaker says.
Aesthetically, the 500X Mobe is set off by its Ivory Pearl exterior, Matt Bronze hood, roof, mirror caps and lower grille and Mopar Blue X” stripe graphics. Complimenting the graphics are 18-inch wheels with a Mopar blue accent and a two-tone Matte Bronze and Satin Black finish.
From a practical standpoint, the only upgrade is the addition of a Mopar roof rack, which in concert with the side rails can easily transport a kite board or other piece of recreational equipment. Inside the vehicle’s theme continues with a kite surfer decal on the dash and Mopar Blue dashboard and seating inserts.
Powering the 500X is the same 2.4-liter MultiAir four-cylinder engine and nine-speed automatic transmission found in standard versions of the 500X. The only performance upgrades consist of a cat-back exhaust with aftermarket tips, which ought to let everyone at the beach know when you’ve arrived for a radical kite boarding session.
