The Ferrari 488 GTB has been with us for the majority of this year and now, the racing-spec variant of the twin-turbocharged supercar has arrived. The 488 GTE and GT3 both made their debuts at Ferrari’s annual Finali Mondiali event at Mugello today, ushering in a new-generation of Ferrari GT cars just in time for the 2016 racing season.
“We still have some pivotal sessions scheduled in our path towards the Daytona 24 Hours,” Ferrari’s GT and Corse Clienti racing director Antonello Coletta told Motorsport.com in an interview. “We will probably debut there, and although it has not been decided yet, it is our goal. Then we will enter all the important races, starting from the ones in the US and then in the WEC.”
Ferrari plans to build 150 488 GTE and 488 GT3 cars over its planned four-year lifecycle, Coletta told Motorsport.com. Both GTE-spec and GT3-spec cars were shown at Mugello, with the GTE Spec car being unveiled in AF Corse/SMP Racing’s familiar blue, red, white and green livery that adorned its 458 GTE.
