On July 27th, 1965, Air Force Major Jay Currie and First Lieutenant Donald Darby were flying from Buckley Field to California when they lost contact with Air Traffic Control. The crash site of the Lockheed T-33A plane they were travelling in was later discovered in Boulder, Colorado, and still sits there today, serving as a sort-of unofficial historic site.
You can go and see Currie and Darby’s crashed plane, but before you set off, you’d better make sure you have the right tools for the job. TFLCar recently learned that when they set out in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon to find the crash site and found the trail to be filled with sharp rocks and steep ascents and descents.
The off-road path was no problem for their trail-rated Jeep, but a few of the other off-roading enthusiasts they met along the way didn’t have quite as much luck. Check out the adventure in the video above, and if you’re interested in seeing the T-33A crash site for yourself, we found information on the trail over on TrailDamage.com.
