The Dodge Charger pursuit is the best-selling police car of 2015, AllPar reports. The flip side is that more and more police departments are straying away from sedans and buying up SUV interceptors like Chevrolet Tahoe PPV, and Fiat-Chrysler has yet to introduce a police crossover or SUV.
About 71% of Chevy’s police interceptor sales are of the Tahoe PPV, and the same is true over at Ford, with its Explorer Interceptor accounting for over 72% of its police fleet sales. These are sales FCA is potentially missing out on by not offering a police SUV, even if its Charger sells notably well compared to the Ford Taurus Interceptor and Chevrolet Caprice PPV.
FCA doesn’t disclose its fleet sales numbers, however AllPar dug up some info indicating that 10% of all Charger sales are at the hands of law enforcement agencies. This is a huge plus for sales of the Charger model in general, and the Durango could potentially experience a similar boost if it were modified for police use.
