With the Dodge Viper set to be killed off in 2017, fans of the model will either be forced to scoop up used versions of the unique supercar or find a different car to occupy that empty spot in their garage. The Viper’s mortal enemy has always been the Chevrolet Corvette, so will Viper enthusiasts switch to the dark side once it has departed?
Personally, we can’t see too many Viper fans buying up Corvettes simply because they can’t purchase a brand new Viper from the dealer. There’s no shortage of used Vipers on the market, and if they’re only interested in buying a new Viper, they have plenty of time to do so before the order books close in 2017.
On the other hand, there may be some Viper owners that aren’t just fans of the Viper, but fans of American performance cars in general. The Viper’s departure may get them to look at or consider buying other American performance cars such as the C7 Corvette or Corvette Z06, or even a Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro or Dodge Challenger. There’s also rumors that a mid-engine Corvette is in the works, which would probably stand the best chance of converting Viper fans over to the Corvette.
So tell us, Viper fans, would you consider buying a Corvette once the model’s no longer? If not, what cars, if any, would be on your list of potential replacements for the legendary 8.4-liter V10 monster?
